Quirky Crafts Guest Designer - Im so excited

Quirky Crafts Challenge Blog

I am so excited, and I can finally tell you all why!

A couple of weeks ago, I was asked if I wanted to join Quirky Crafts Challenge Blog as a Guest Designer, and after very quick consideration, I said YES!!!!

I have to admit that I was very nervous on taking the post because I have never done anything like this before, but Carol has been super helpful and so friendly and I am really enjoying it.

The first Challenge theme I was to take part in, was the Disney song, 'It's a Small World',  and the beautiful Digi Stamps were sponsored by Paper Pretties and Samaflora.

I was completely confused with what I was going to do for the challenge, so I watched a video of the song online, which I have to say, was an experience haha!

I eventually decided to do a double journal page in one of my old ledgers.

I wanted it to be bright and cheerful, so I thought that my Dylusions inks would be perfect.  I selected a few colours and sprayed them over the two pages.

I used a few different stencils on my background. The vine around the edge is a Dylusions stencil which I sponged some ink through to make it stand out more on the page.

The sun stencil is from Tim Holtz new stencil range, which are so versatile. I then applied some gesso through a stencil to add some dimension and give the page some texture. The fence is a Stampotique stamp.

I loved the Digi stamps that Paper Pretties provided for this challenge, they were great to use.  I decided that I wanted to use the Geisha, the Pilgrim, the Dogs (Thanksgiving welcome committee), and the Poodle in Paris.

I coloured in the images using Copic markers, then cut each image out.  I hand drew a hot air balloon and decorated it by cutting strips of coloured papers and sticking the to the balloon shape I had drawn and then cutting around it.  I then drew the shape of a basket and wanted to get a 'wicker basket' effect, so I cut some thinner strips of paper and weaved them together, and I was really pleased with the result. It looked quite effective.

I placed the images on the page where I wanted them and printed out the 'Hooray' sentiment (also from Paper Pretties).  To help it blend into the background I applied 'broken china Tim Holtz stamp pad' around the edges, to take away the starkness of the white.

The last thing I did was cut out a couple of circles from an old atlas and mounted them onto card and stuck them to the page to create the idea of the small world in the distance.

I really enjoyed my first post as a  Guest Designer for the Quirky Crafts Challenge Blog team and I'm really looking forward to the next few posts that I do for them

Please feel free to leave a comment, I would love to hear your thoughts.

Its lovely that you have popped by, so thank you.

Happy crafting xxx
