Eyes Wide Open - Quirky Reminder Challenge #1

'Eyes Wide Open' - Reminder  Challenge  #1

A week goes so quickly when you're having fun.... I've managed to spend some quality time in my craft room this week, and I've so enjoyed myself.

It's time for the Quirky Crafts reminder challenge this week. The theme is 'Eyes Wide Open', so the project had to have  big eyes, or lots of eyes etc.....

The sponsor for this challenge  is  Stitchy Bear Stamps and I have found these images so easy to use, they're gorgeous.

I wanted to make a tag for this challenge project, but to make it a bit different, I used a  Ranger Size 12  black tag.
To make the background, I mixed some Paper Artsy 'Grunge Paste' with some red paint ready to scrape through a stencil.  I found a stencil that I'd forgotten I had and it was perfect for this project.  I think it is a Donna Downey stencil but I'm not 100% sure.

I used some low tack tape to hold the stencil in place whilst I was applying the paste because I've found that it can move very easily and then it smudges the paint underneath.

The Grunge Paste is fabulous as it adds so much depth and texture to the tag, It becomes a very tactile piece.   Once the paste was dry, I applied Treasure Gold in a combination of 'White Fire' and 'Rose Quartz' over the top of the poppies and around the edges.
It really made the flowers 'Pop' off the tag....
Finally I embossed some swirls  using the 'Rust' Antiquities embossing powder by Ranger.

To colour my image I used Tim Holtz Distress Markers.  I used them with a water-brush, to soften the colour, and blend them easily together....

I placed her centrally on the tag and glued her into place.  To finish the tag off, I wanted to add a couple of embellishments.
I took four wooden leaves, coloured them, then heat embossed them with a clear powder. Then I made a 'poppy-like' flower, and glued everything into position....

This is my finished tag.  I'm really pleased with how it turned out. I don't use black tags very often, but I think this may have persuaded me  to use them in other projects.

I hope you like this tag.

Thanks for popping over, I'd love to say hi to you, see you soon.

Happy crafting x
