Gorgeous Owls and hanging Pumpkins
I really enjoyed doing the Quirky Crafts Challenge this week. You could say I'd had a hoot!
I had an idea in mind as soon as I'd received the images and wanted to make a canvas with those ideas.
The digi images I used on this piece were from Limited Runs stamps and I just love them. As soon as I saw the owl on the branch, I was hooked and couldn't wait to get started.
I began by using Adirondack paint dabbers straight on to my canvas. It was already primed so I didn't need to use gesso first. I used a baby wipe to apply the first layer of paint, then dried with a heat gun, then applied two more layers in the same way, drying each layer in between. I wanted to add some drips to the background to make it a bit more interesting.
So I made some biggish blobs (very technical) of paint at the top of the canvas and sprayed water onto the paint which dilutes it and makes it run.
I had lots of fun colouring in the images. Seeing the owls come to life was great to watch. I coloured all of the digis in with Pro Markers.
I positioned the digis on the canvas and glued them down using a matte medium as you need a strong bond when adhering things to canvas. Once the matte medium had dried, I drew around each image with a black pen, to make them pop off the page.
I never feel that a piece is finished until it has some sort of border or edge to it, so to achieve that on my canvas I used Treasure Gold. I love this product. It is a high grade gilding wax and gives you the most amazing highlights and effect.
Finally, I added a couple of charms (a moon and a bat/moth) to the canvas, just to add to the general nighttime spookiness of the pumpkin theme..!
I loved the images from Limited Runs, they were superb and fun to work with. I hope you enjoyed seeing them too...
Thanks for popping by, it would be great to hear from, so say Hi...
