Christmas is nearly here!!!!! - Quirky Crafts Challenge #21
I've been getting into the Christmas spirit this week in my crafty den, and I loved it.
I'm a bit like a child on the lead up to Christmas. I love the smells, the lights, the decorations and anything that twinkles. You have to have twinkles at Christmas time, or especially at Christmas time!
What makes it even more special for me is when you can make your own decorations and place them around your home for everyone to enjoy......
I really enjoyed this months challenge at Quirky Crafts, it's the first Christmassy thing I've had chance to make, so it was great fun but I want to make loads more now.
The images we used this month were from Robyn's Fetish and I was spoilt for choice. They were lovely Digi Stamps, the hardest part is choosing which ones to use.
I decided to make a wall hanging in the shape of a giant tag.
To do the background I chose several sheets of 12x12 Christmas themed paper and ripped them in to various sized pieces, ready to place them on to the background. I ripped the paper to expose the inner core, so I could ink around the edges. I inked each piece, to make sure that they stood out on the background with a Walnut Stain Distress Ink Pad.
I then coloured in the gorgeous Reindeer image from Robyn's Fetish. I used some of my favourite mediums, including Inktense Blocks, and Portfolio Crayons. I also love to use 'Prima resist canvas' (as the leaves), Treasure Gold, and Distress Ink pads. the
I particularly love using Treasure Gold on projects as it gives a lovely vintage patina and gilding to the piece, it really finishes a piece off.
I thought I would add a Christmas flower to the top of the hanging. I only had cream coloured flowers, so I chose 3 different size layers and sprayed the with a selection of inks by Dylusions, I love using these sprays, the colours are amazing, and you can keep going until you get the colour you want.
The flower didn't look right on its own so I used some 'Prima' Resist Canvas. It is so good to play with and the results are amazing. I chose some pieces that look like leaves, and again sprayed them with ink. When they start to dry you can see the resist technique working and I love it! Again I added some Treasure Gold to the flower to add a bit of shine....
I mounted the reindeer onto a piece of black card, to make sure that he was the focal point of the hanging.
Just to finish the whole thing off, I edged around the hanging with the Walnut Stain distress ink, using a piece of foam pad.
Making this has really got me in to the Christmas spirit....Im not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing in early October haha!!
