Quirky Challenge # 2 - The 3 B's- Birds, Bugs and Butterflies

The 3 B's - Birds, Bugs and Butterflies
It was my turn to set the challenge at Quirky Crafts Challenge Blog this week.  It was a bit of a challenge, as I've never done this before, but I enjoyed myself.
I decided that I wanted the theme to be 'The 3 B's - Birds, Bugs and Butterflies' because I wanted to use some bright and vibrant colours to cheer me up.  The weather has been so wet and dreary, that I thought some birds and butterflies, and not forgetting the bugs, would brighten things up a little.....
I chose to use a circular wooden wall plaque for this project.

I gesso'd the round plaque before I did anything else, because the surface was very rough and uneven.
Once it was dry, I painted the background with a selection of 'Golden' Paints, slightly watered down and painted on with a dry brush.

The images were provided by 'Paper Pretties' and I used Dylusions inks to colour them in, mainly because of their bright, intense colours.

I love using metal embellishments but stupidly I forget to use them on a regular basis.  Then I see someone's work, and the gorgeous effects they've got using embellishments, and it reminds me to use them again.
I painted over the metal charms to try and merge them into the rest of the colours.  Once the paint was dry, I used some Treasure Gold over the top to highlight them.  I also used the Treasure Gold to colour the edge of the plaque, it really made the colours pop.....

Thanks for looking....xxxxxx
