Quirky Reminder Challenge #2 -The 3 Bs, Birds, Bugs and Butterflies

It's that time of the week again, when it's time for my Design Team reminder challenge.  It was my turn to hold the challenge this month, and I have really enjoyed it.

I thought I would do a journal page for this project. The main reason is that I was lucky enough to win an antique ledger which dates back to the mid 1880s on EBay, and the paper quality is amazing.

I began by selecting quite pastel coloured spray inks, which were a combination of DylusionsCosmic Shimmer Chalk inks, and Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists.  Once the ink was dry and I had got the effect I wanted, I chose a couple of stencils to add some more depth to the background. I used a butterfly stencil as this was perfect for the theme and used a pearly spray in a pale turquoise colour to spritz through. I then used a Wendy Vecchi stencil of a tree, and applied Tim Holtz Distress ink through the stencil until I was happy with colour.
I tore a strip of paper roughly, and used it to create my 'hills' at the bottom of the page. The page just needed 'grounding' because otherwise the bird boxes would've looked like they were floating...!

Once dry, I selected a stencil of a tree branch with bird cages hanging from it (sorry, I can't remember the make).
I used a Copper coloured 'Dreamweavers' Embossing Paste and applied it through the stencil.  It makes it look very striking, and compliments the background colours perfectly.

Finally, I coloured the birds and the bird boxes with Dylusions inks and a water brush, and drew the stands in for the boxes.
I wanted to make the birds look as though they were flying, so I cut out an extra wing for each bird and stuck them to the bodies, then shaped them slightly. The wings stand off the page which creates more interest and dimension to the page....

I really did enjoy this challenge.  I love birds and butterflies, and You can't help but smile when you see them flying around with their brightly coloured wings ......

Thanks for looking peeps, come back and say hi..... Xx
